High-level experts gather for the third time at the STG to foster peace-building efforts in Ukraine's Donbas region.
Launched in 2018, the School of Transnational Governance’s series of High-Level Policy Dialogues (HLPDs) on the Donbas bring together policy influencers and decision-makers, as well as representatives from the field of economics, academia and civil society. The experts exchange views on the situation in the conflict-torn region, with the aim of building consensus on the various aspects of inclusive reintegration. Discussions focus both on socio-economic dimensions and on practical measures in support of peace-building efforts.
The recent shift in Ukraine’s political environment and policies following the 2019 presidential and parliamentary elections, has now prompted the HLPD organisers, STG Professor Luigi Narbone and Remi Duflot, a member of the international team involved in the Minsk negotiations, to convene a new meeting. The event will take place on Saturday, 8 February at the European University Institute in Florence, where participants will discuss behind closed doors.
The third HLPD on the Donbas is organised with the financial support of the Atlantic Council. The previous meetings in December 2018 and July 2019 focused on the economic future of Donbas and on the political environment and institutional framework for successful reintegration and the organisers published a policy brief which include the recommendations generated during the discussion.
