My Career: new series offers inspiring talks by policy professionals

Starting in January 2018 and continuing throughout the year, high-flying policy professionals will visit the STG to share personal stories and engaging insights about their careers.


A new series of events, called ‘My Career’, kicks off with three informal conversations with experts in human rights, conflict resolution and European law. 

The first speaker will be Bruno Stagno Ugarte, Deputy Executive Director for Advocacy, Human Rights Watch. Mr Stagno Ugarte has had a varied career, including stints as Foreign Minister of Costa Rica and Ambassador to the United Nations and the International Criminal Court.

Prof. Emma Sky, whose fascinating career in policy development has taken her around the world, including to Iraq, Afghanistan, the Palestinian Territories, and Yale, will share her unqiue insights. a few days later. Professor Sky has particular expertise on areas including poverty elimination, human rights, public administration reform and conflict resolution in the Middle East, South Asia and Africa.

The series also offers the chance to engage with Professor Miguel Poiares Maduro, founding Director of the STG about his career influencing policy. Professor Maduro studied Law at the EUI, before serving as Advocate General at the European Court of Justice, Portuguese Minister for Regional Development and chairman of the FIFA Governance Committee and its independent Review Committee.
