Fatema Jafari

Fellowship period: 1 August 2019 - 31 December 2019 (externally funded)

Fatema Jafari is a women’s rights advocate working as a member of the Provincial Council of Herat. She participated in four loya jirgas (consultative councils) from 2009–2019. She has worked on several advocacy campaigns opposing violence against women and has pressed for greater respect for women’s rights at the national level.

Fatema also works as deputy director of Neswan association, an afghan CSO which mainly works on women vocational training since 2008. She participated in two fellowships in United states at National Endowment for democracy and Yale University on 2016 and as a result she wrote a book titled “Women political participation in Afghanistan”.

Fatema is currently member of the steering committee of PROMOTE-MUSHARIKAT coalitions and member of the Access to Justice committee, working to promote justice for women in Afghanistan. She is also a member of the advisory board of Voice of Women Organization, which runs shelters for women.
